Rotten and Ripe is a zine created to document my creative process and where I get inspiration from. When creating this zine, I limited myself to only two prints I had created in printmaking over the semester. Those prints were chosen because they were created using no limitations which is sort of the opposite of my creative process. Tying the prints and content of the zine together I created an apple theme and called it Rotten and Ripe because those are two words that describe my design work. Sometimes my designs come out rotten and sometimes they come out ripe! Not everything you create will be good.

Over this past semester I have learned method making and setting limitations on myself when designing to keep me from becoming too overwhelmed. One limitation that helps me is color limitations, which I used in this zine because I was limited to the colors in the prints. It was exciting to finally be able to talk about a designer that currently inspires me, April Greiman, who embraced the new technology of her time. This feels relevant being a designer in 2024, because of AI and the fears that come with it. Her use of overlapping layers, vibrant colors and experimental use of type inspires my work the most. I strive to create design that is chaotic but harmonious.
